Is Medellín safe for tourists in 2026?
Yes — Medellín is generally safe for tourists in 2026, and dramatically safer than its 1990s reputation. The neighborhoods travelers actually spend time in — El Poblado, Laureles, Envigado, Sabaneta — are fine for walking around during the day and into the evening. That said, it's a big Latin American city with real petty crime: phone-snatching, distraction theft, and drink-spiking are the things to actually watch for, not violence against tourists. The golden rule locals live by is 'no dar papaya' (see below).
