Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Roavi ("Roavi", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects information when you access or use our website, mobile applications, and related services (collectively, the "Platform").

By accessing or using the Platform, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not access or use the Platform.

What Roavi is

A discovery and messaging platform where users can browse Local Friends and independently published activities, then communicate via in-app messaging.

What Roavi is not

Roavi is not a tour operator, travel agency, or payment processor. Roavi does not process payments between users.

"Local Friend"means an independent individual who creates a profile on the Platform.
"Activity"means an independently created listing, plan, or experience posted by a Local Friend or another host.
"User"means any person who visits, registers, or otherwise uses the Platform.
"Personal Information"means information that identifies, relates to, describes, or could reasonably be linked to you.
"Processing"means any operation performed on information (e.g., collection, storage, use, disclosure, deletion).

The "data controller" (or equivalent term under applicable law) responsible for the Platform is:

We collect information (a) you provide, (b) automatically when you use the Platform, and (c) from third parties where permitted by law.

3.1 Information You Provide

Account information: name, display name/username, email address, phone number (optional), country/city, language.

Profile information: bio, interests, photos, availability, and any other details you choose to add.

Activity information: titles, descriptions, categories, tags, location area, schedules, photos/media, and pricing/range (optional).

Support & feedback: information you submit via forms, surveys, or support requests.

Reports & safety submissions: details you provide when reporting content or behavior.

3.2 In-App Messaging

The Platform includes in-app messaging. We may process:

  • Message content (text, attachments if enabled) sent and received through the Platform
  • Message metadata (participants, timestamps, delivery status, abuse signals)

Limited access: Roavi does not sell private messages and does not use message content for advertising targeting.

Safety & enforcement: We may access, review, or preserve messages only when reasonably necessary to investigate reports, prevent spam/fraud/abuse, comply with legal obligations, or enforce our Terms, Community Guidelines, and Safety Center.

3.3 Verification & Trust Features

If you apply for a Verified Badge or similar feature, we may collect additional information, such as:

  • Government-issued identification and verification images
  • Selfie/video checks
  • Verification results (verified/unverified status, timestamps, method)

3.4 Automatically Collected Information

Device & log data: IP address, browser type, operating system, device identifiers, crash logs.

Usage data: pages viewed, searches, clicks, time spent, referral URLs, interactions with profiles/activities.

Approximate location: city/country-level location based on IP or device settings.

Security data: authentication events, suspicious login patterns, anti-abuse and rate-limit signals.

3.5 Location Data

If you enable location permissions, we may collect location data (which may include GPS coordinates) to support location-based features, such as showing nearby Local Friends and activities. You can disable location access in your device settings, but certain features may not work.

We use cookies, pixels, SDKs, and similar technologies for:

We may use Personal Information for the following purposes:

6.1 Public Information

Some information is public by design, such as the profile and activity information you choose to publish (e.g., display name, bio, languages, photos, city, activity descriptions). Do not post sensitive information you do not want to be visible.

6.2 Other Users

Users may view public profiles and activities and may contact each other through in-app messaging. Message content is visible to conversation participants (and to Roavi only as described in this Policy for safety/compliance/enforcement).

6.3 Service Providers

We share information with vendors who provide services to us (e.g., hosting, analytics, email delivery, messaging infrastructure, identity verification, customer support tools, security/fraud prevention). They may process information only on our instructions and must protect it.

6.4 Legal & Safety Disclosures

We may disclose information if we believe it is reasonably necessary to comply with law or legal process, respond to lawful requests, protect the rights/property/safety of Roavi or users, or enforce our policies.

6.5 Business Transfers

If Roavi is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to continued protection as required by law.

Roavi does not process payments between users. Any payment arrangement is agreed to directly between users. Roavi is not responsible for disputes, chargebacks, or issues related to payments made outside the Platform.

Your information may be processed and stored in countries other than your own, including countries that may have different data protection laws. Where required, we implement safeguards designed to protect information during transfers (e.g., contractual safeguards).

Server location: United States

We retain information for as long as necessary to provide the Platform, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and protect the community. Retention periods vary depending on the type of information and purpose.

Account & profile data: retained while your account is active and for a reasonable period after deletion for safety/legal reasons.

Messages: retained to provide messaging and for safety, compliance, and dispute resolution.

Verification data: retained only as long as necessary for verification, fraud prevention, and compliance.

Logs & security data: retained for security monitoring and abuse prevention.

You may request account deletion by contacting hello@roavi.com or using in-app settings (if available). We may retain certain information where required or permitted by law.

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction, or objection to certain processing, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

We may require identity verification and may deny requests where legally permitted (e.g., to protect other users or comply with legal obligations).

10.1 U.S. State Privacy Notices

If you are a resident of certain U.S. states (e.g., California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah), you may have additional rights.

Do we sell personal information? No.

Do we share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising? No.

We may send service-related communications (e.g., security alerts, account notices) and, where permitted, marketing communications. You can opt out of marketing emails using the unsubscribe link in the message. Service-related messages may still be sent when necessary.

If you provide a phone number, you may receive messages related to your account (where enabled). Message and data rates may apply and are your responsibility.

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and using caution when communicating with others.

⚠️ Security note: Do not share passwords or sensitive personal information in messages.

If you post content publicly (profiles, activity listings, photos, comments, reviews, etc.), others may view, collect, and use that information. You are responsible for what you choose to publish. Roavi cannot control how third parties use publicly available information.

The Platform is not intended for individuals under 18 (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you believe a minor has provided information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

The Platform may include links or integrations to third-party services (e.g., maps, analytics, verification vendors). We are not responsible for third-party privacy practices. Review their policies before using their services.

This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict of law principles, except where applicable law requires otherwise.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above and may provide additional notice as required by law. Your continued use of the Platform after changes become effective means you accept the updated Policy.
