What a regio can show that a business agenda can't

Nobody comes to Monterrey on holiday; they come to work, to visit family or, in 2026, for the World Cup. Those visitors have one free evening and no idea what to do with it: where to eat real cabrito, Barrio Antiguo or the Fundidora, La Huasteca or Chipinque on a Saturday morning, a Rayados or Tigres match. A regio solves it in one message.

What you can show

  • 1

Cabrito and carne asada where regios go, and the difference between the executives' restaurant and the table where people actually eat.

  • 2

La Huasteca, Chipinque and Parque Fundidora on a weekend morning, and Barrio Antiguo or San Pedro at night depending on who the visitor is.

  • 3

A Rayados or Tigres match in the right stadium with someone who can explain why the city is split in two.

  • 4

How to move between San Pedro, downtown and the airport without losing the afternoon to traffic.

Monterrey is one of the few cities in Mexico with a Local Friend already listed on Roavi; there is room for many more. Visitors here come for business and family: say on your profile if you are free on weekday evenings, which is when they have time.

Good to know before you begin

A few honest answers, so there are no surprises.

No. Certification applies to people who sell and lead formal tours. Roavi is a meeting between people: a visitor pays a local for their time and company. You sell no tour and lead no group.

Less leisure than Cancún and more business visitors than almost any city in the country, plus regios living in the US who come back with partners or friends who speak no Spanish, and in 2026 the World Cup fans. All of them want one evening with someone from here.

Yes. Creating and publishing your Local Friend profile is completely free — there’s no cost to appear in the directory or receive messages.

No — and that is the point. A Local Friend is not a tour guide: you spend time with someone as yourself, you do not run a tour. Professional guiding is a licensed profession in a number of countries; spending an afternoon with someone is not. And if you do hold a guiding licence, put it on your profile — travellers look for it.

Yes. You set your own hourly rate, and you can change it anytime from your profile.

No. Roavi doesn’t process payments or take a commission on what you arrange with a traveler.

No. You decide who you respond to, and you can say no to anyone, for any reason.

No. Verification is optional. It’s completed through Stripe Identity and adds a verified status to your profile, but your profile, visibility, and messaging stay free either way.

Travelers message you directly through Roavi once they find your profile in the directory. You choose whether and how to reply.

Yes. You can pause your visibility or delete your profile at any time from your account settings.
