Google completes "rentafriend" with "rentafriend.com sign up" and "rentafriend com application form". If you are about to fill it in, here is what it asks, what happens after, and what to compare it with.
Is it free to sign up?#
For friends, yes. RentAFriend's business is the hirer's membership (reported at about $24.95 a month or $69.95 a year); friends list free, set their own hourly rate, and are paid directly by the person who hires them, usually in cash. If a page asks you, the friend, to pay to be listed, you are not on RentAFriend.
What the application form asks#
- Photos. Several; profiles with one photo rarely get messages.
- Location, so hirers can find you by city.
- A description of yourself and what you are happy to do: dinner, a game, a museum, showing someone around, a plus-one at an event.
- Interests and activities from a list.
- Availability and your hourly rate. Members have reported a $10 minimum.
- Account details, and some members have mentioned questions about gender and orientation.
There is no interview and no background check, in either direction. Trustpilot reviews from 2025 complain about the sign-up flow and about support not answering; have patience and screenshots.
Who gets accepted and how long it takes#
Profiles are published to paying members once approved; reports range from a day to longer. Being accepted is not the hard part. The hard part is the next section.
Why many new profiles hear nothing#
Only paying members can message. Most of them are in the largest US cities, and in each city many profiles compete for them. Outside New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston and Miami, members describe new profiles sitting for weeks without a message. If that is you: why you are not getting messages on RentAFriend, and what to do. What the work pays when it does come: RentAFriend jobs and pay.
How signing up as a Local Friend on Roavi compares#
| RentAFriend | Roavi | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost to list | Free | Free |
| What the form asks | Photos, location, description, interests, availability, rate | Three real photos, your city, languages, interests, a short bio, your hourly rate |
| Review | Published to members | A person reviews every profile before it goes live |
| Who can message you | Paying members only | Anyone, free |
| Commission | None | None |
| Age | 18+ | 18+ |
The three photos are the part people stop at: without them the application does not enter review. A photo of you, one of something you love doing, one of a place you love is enough. The honest caveat is supply: Roavi is still thin in most US cities, which cuts both ways, since a new profile in Phoenix or Houston is the one people find.
Free to list, a human review, people message you without paying a membership.
