World Cup 2026 Visa Requirements: Country-by-Country Guide

World Cup 2026 is a three-country tournament — and each host has its own visa system. If you're traveling from outside North America, you may need up to three different documents to follow your team.

US Entry Requirements

Visa Waiver Program (ESTA) — 41 countries including UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and most of Western Europe. Apply online for $21, valid 2 years. Approval typically within 72 hours.

B1/B2 Tourist Visa — required for most non-VWP countries including India, China, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico (for non-citizens), most African countries. Current US visa wait times in May 2026:

If you don't have a US visa already, it's likely too late for World Cup 2026. Try:

• Interview waiver renewal if you've had a US visa in the last 4 years
• Third-country interview in cities with shorter wait times (sometimes Bogotá, Mexico City)
• Emergency appointment for confirmed match tickets — limited availability

FIFA Fan ID: FIFA partnered with US CBP for an expedited entry program for confirmed ticket holders. Doesn't replace the visa — speeds up entry once you arrive.

Canada Entry Requirements

eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization) — most visa-exempt countries including UK, EU, Australia, Japan, South Korea. $7 CAD, online, approved in minutes. Valid 5 years.

Visitor Visa — required for Mexico, India, China, Colombia, Brazil, most of Africa. Wait times in May 2026:

Canada's wait times are dramatically better than the US.

CAN+ program: If you've visited Canada or held a Canadian visa in the last 10 years, you may qualify for expedited processing.

Mexico Entry Requirements

Most generous of the three. Mexico waives visa requirements for citizens of:

• All EU countries, UK, US, Canada
• Most of Latin America (Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Peru, Uruguay, etc.)
• Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia
• Holders of valid US, Canada, UK, Schengen, or Japan visas

Visa required for: China, India, Russia, most African countries, several Asian countries.

FMM (Forma Migratoria Múltiple) — replaced by automated kiosks at most major airports. You'll get up to 180 days as a tourist. Print the confirmation; you may need it leaving.

Best feature: Mexico now accepts a valid US, Canadian, UK, or Schengen visa as proof of admissibility — meaning if you have one of those, you don't need a separate Mexican visa even if your passport would normally require one.

The Cross-Border Reality

Following your team across all three countries during the tournament is surprisingly achievable for European/UK/Australian fans (ESTA + eTA + visa-free Mexico = three free or cheap online forms).

For South American, African, and most Asian fans, the US is the bottleneck. If you don't have a US visa already as of May 2026, you'll likely only experience the Mexican host cities.

Practical Tips

Apply for the most restrictive country first. US takes longest. Don't apply for the Canadian eTA until your US visa is confirmed.

Don't overstay. US/Canada systems are linked. An overstay in one will affect future entry to the other.

Book refundable hotels until visas are confirmed. Match tickets are generally non-refundable, but accommodations should stay flexible.

Carry printed proof of match tickets at all border crossings. Physical paperwork still helps — even though everything's digital.
