Is it better to visit Saona Island from Bayahíbe or Punta Cana?
Bayahíbe is the better launch point for Saona Island — it's the closest departure port, so the boat ride is much shorter and you get more time on the island and less time in transit. Tours from Punta Cana involve a long road transfer to Bayahíbe first, then the boat. If Saona is your goal, basing yourself in or near Bayahíbe (or La Romana) means a shorter, cheaper, less rushed day. Book smart or with a local to skip the resort-excursion markup.
