Everything travelers ask about Cancún — answered honestly
The real answers to the questions you'd post in a Facebook group — safety, the Hotel Zone vs downtown, day trips, sargassum, and which beach is actually worth it — plus the option to ask a verified Mexican who actually lives here.

Is Cancún safe for tourists in 2026?
Yes — Cancún's Hotel Zone (Zona Hotelera), where almost all tourists stay, is one of the safest places in Mexico, heavily patrolled by tourist police and built entirely around international visitors. Violent crime against tourists is rare. Downtown Cancún (El Centro) is also generally safe in the main areas but feels like a regular Mexican city — use normal precautions. The dramatic headlines you sometimes see usually involve specific incidents far from where you'll be.
